Hi Guys
Do you know on a 2012 Fatbob if you have to pull the inner primary to check to see if the compensator is tight? I think that this is what is causing me a vibration at 4000 RPM and up??? If a compensator was loose would the bike run normal at lower RPM (no vibration)?
I checked all mounts on the bike and even replaced the front one!
I checked all you can check without going inside.
Any help would be appreciated.
Do the 30T front pulley mod, then if you don't find anything wrong with your compensator you didn't waste your time. It is the best mod I have done so far.
Never had my 103 to 4 grand ever! Vibes usta come in at 2900 and never took it past 3400! Now...it runs smoother for some reason! Go figure! Still...can't see a reason to wind her up to 4 grand!
I take mine up to 5k in 2nd and 3rd now. .never used to, was afraid to brake something. Then I got it dyno tuned and saw it running up to 6k and that it didn't hurt anything.
To answer your question. .you can check the tightness of the compensator bolt without removing the inner primary. But it might be a lost cause. Per my comments on the other thread you had going I think it's a combination of things. Exhaust, compensator, crankshaft out of true, balance of crankshaft to pistons. .your auto primary chain tensioner could be too tight. .If you do take the cover off check that as well.
If you ever figure it out please post up what it was as I have my own vibration I wish wasn't there.

i normally dont take mine up that high but if theres a short onramp and traffic is flowing quickly.....
gotta love getting on the highway in second.
my worn compensator would cause a clunky clangy noise on start-up sometimes or if I yanked the throttle at a light. But it never caused a vibration. Even after I had the primary cover off to re-torque it.
I talked to an HD (not local)dealer and he said he has had a few come in with a loose compensator and just had to tighten it and relock it(conpensating sproket). He said you would never know anything is wrong unless you hit the higher RPM??
Anyone ever have that happen to them? Looking at the service manual why would you have to ever take the inner primary off?

Thanks for the info!
For a rotor or stator change, ineer primary bearing or as alansummers suggested a pully swap.
Update, going to dealer this afternoon. Will take bike there and tell them to fix it on their dime. If they don't fix it, give me a new bike! 3000 miles had enough!
Game over, will let you know the outcome when it is over. Hunting season is here and won't ride as much now. Going archery moose in two weeks!!!
