I have searched high and low on the internet for an article or a how to on this and have come up blank. Does anyone know of someone doing a write up on this?
http://www.motorcyclehidlights.com has both written and video guides on their site. Also, a youtube search of 'motorcycle HID install' gives lots of results.
Sorry, don't know of a write-up out there. But retrofit of an HID in existing bucket is pretty straight-forward. Almost (not quite) plug-n-play.
A bunch of folks have done it (including me). If you have specific questions, post em. You'll probably get more responses than you want.
I installed a DDM Tuning 35w single 6000k H4 Xenon lamp into a 5-3/4" Dyna Defender bucket. Whoa momma, what a great change in light output! Took about 2 hrs to install. Had to drill a 1" hole in the back of the bucket to hold the DDM HID wiring harness & I plugged that into the OEM spade connector inside the bucket. Also had to find a spot to mount the ballast & ignitor. Tried to mount it under the seat with an extention amp cable, but that did not work.
I like the single HID lamp cause there is no high beam (don't need one). That way, the headlight is completely off when HL switch is on high. That's nice cause when the HID first comes on, it draws some serious amps out of the batt. Combine that with the starter draw, & a weak batt will really show up.
Bit the bullet and ordered a set from DDM Tuning last night. I wasn't too sure which color to go with, the 5000k or the 6000k. I went with the 35W 6000k and hope that it isnt blue. The color charts are a little difficult to decipher.
Now where to hide the ballasts???? Hmmm I'm going to have to see how much wire I have to work with when they get here.

Wish me luck.
Absolutely, I want to know how this works out for you. Might post a few pics during the install.

Did a set for HIDExtra on my RG faring on my FatBob. There is a write up posted on their Blog site. I have 10000K. Their prices and tech support is excellent.

Bob,
I saw your write up, and it was about as close to a Fatbob install as I could find, with one exception. You have your faring to hide all the guts for the system in, and with the Fatbob having such a small light I think I'm in for a challange. I will definately keep looking back at your writeup if I run into trouble. I will try to take pics and post what I did. Maybe some of you will have some suggestions that might work better after I'm done.
