Default 2000 Dyna FXD

So I just bought a 2000 FXD about a week ago. The bike looked to be in prestine condition, tons of chrome through and through, and of course, it fired right up and sounded great at the dealer. After taking it for a spin around the block I was certain this was the bike for me, so I ended up buying it.

Over the past few days I've noticed an issue and wanted to get some feedback. From day one, getting the bike in neutral has been a real pain in the ***. Initially I figured I just needed to get used to it. Well over the past few days, when I change gears, I hear a pretty loud "clunk." Also, when I go to start the bike, sometimes it takes a small jump forward (yes the clutch is in). I'm thinking I may have a bad flywheel.... Any thoughts???? Unfortunately I bought the bike used and there isn't any warranty... If I have to take it to the dealer to get it fixed, so be it... I am certainly no wrench man myself....but before doing so, I was hoping someone may have some advice.

Any feedback is appreciated.

It a 2000 , I would try draining the primary fluid and put 22 oz in... ( Look at it very close) Newer takes 32 oz (Quart) if it's over filled it'll be hard to find (N) For a start..

Also, you might want to try readjusting the clutch. It is easy to do and since you're going to have the derby cover off to change the chaincase fluid as trotter suggested, you might as well go ahead andadjust the clutch. Can't hurt and either one of these two fixes just might solve your problem. Good luck.

the 2002 fxd I have requires only 26 oz. in the primary case, in the service manual there is a caution about over-filling. "Do not over-fill the primary chaincase with lubricant. Over-filling may cause rough engagement, incomplete disengagement, clutch drag and/or difficulty in finding neutral at engine idle". May I also suggest buying the service manual and becoming familiar with your machine. On some of the newer touring types or even the softtails or dynas the amount maybe different. The service manual even explains the clutch adjustment. I have found that holding in the clutch for about 30 seconds, after first start and during warm up, the clunk into 1st is sometimes non-existent. Maybe some cltch experts or HD techs can explain that. Have fun and ride safe.
