I have the short shots. I love them. If you want loud, they are pretty loud, but they sound great. I wouldn't say they affect me when riding or anything. It's not so loud that I can't hear myself think. In motion the sound is leaving you out of the pipe. Sitting still they are pretty loud. And the big shots are basically extended short shots. As far as performace they are probably more limited since they are so short. They're basically short pipes with baffles. But they sound great.
I have the short shots as well and agree, they sound GREAT
The main reason I went with big shots was because of the crossover. I don't know how much this actually helps, but I'm still thinking about selling them for a 2into1
To the people saying Short Shots sound Great all I can say is you have never had an older Harley . I bought a bike with Short Shots on it sounded like crap .
short shots are good for nothing except loudness. their way to short to get any real performance aspects from them. if loudness is all you want then their what you want. but if you want good performance, get the big shots or pretty much any 2-1.
Had the short shots, they sound and perform like crap...loss of low end torque and sound like rocks in a tin can rolling down the road...even changed the baffles to the quiet baffles, made it a little deeper, but the performance hit was too much for me....Got a set of Rinehart Churchills.....they perform great and sound like a HD should......Dynojet won't even make a map for the short shots because they perform so poorly.....

Never heard a set of Rinehart pipes that sounded good on any bike. Friend had some on his 2008 Street Glide and they sounded like a big wet fart. His son had some that came on a Softail Springer and the result was pretty much the same. Short shots on the old bikes may sound different, but I cant complain on mine. The look good too. Really can't go wrong with V&H. Everyone has different tastes. Different strokes for different folks. You are right about the maps for the short shots, haha. More for looks and sound than performance. You can get some different baffles to try and get back some performance though

ill second the rinehart comment. my friend has them on his street glide and i don't care for the sound either. a wet fart sums it up pretty well tho. they aren't super loud, but there is just something "off" about the tone.
But you like the way short shots sound?? My Rineharts sound and perform excellent, never heard a bad word about them.....but then again, you guys with the short shots would hear a lot of more of my pipes, because you'd be left behind at every light....
I like my big shots, got a great deal on them! But I would like a deeper sound and better low end.
I'm not sure if it's just me but these bikes are slow! (Sluggish) But that could be because I'm coming from sport bikes. (Crotch rockets) So my expectations are unrealistic for a Harley. Which is O.K. because I need to really slow down in my Old age.
