I'm not sure if it's just me but these bikes are slow! (Sluggish) But that could be because I'm coming from sport bikes. (Crotch rockets) So my expectations are unrealistic for a Harley. Which is O.K. because I need to really slow down in my Old age.
your right they are slow. I just drove a new fatbob last week and thought after being on it for 10 mins how much more I appreciate my non stock bike. the difference is amazing between the two!! my vote still would be the bigshots over the shortshots they just have that deeper sound vs a tin can sound.

I have big shot staggers with BCT baffles. Sounds like a pro street drag car, which I like. Had engine built to FM 107 , HP 105 TQ 115 with woods 555's. My tuner said the cross over on the big shots were close to 2-1 in performance and by far better than the short shots and big radius 2-2. He has done tons of vtwin builds and I trust him. I did not like the sound of the big shots before I put in the BCT baffles and went from tinny to deep tone and very loud.

I had short shots on my Sportster and they were a little louder than the big shots I have on my Dyna. I as the other like the cross over H design of the big shots.

Thanks for the great responses, I do appreciate the info! I am glad I asked because I wasn't thinking that there would be that much difference in the pipes!

The big shots will have a deeper sound and perform descent (for a 2-2) due to the cross-over H design.

The short shots will just be loud as hell & perform terrible...even worse than your big radius.

Of these 2, the big shots by far.

If you want good sound AND performance, get a 2-1. You would be amazed at the difference in performance with a 2-1. I recommend a D&D Fatcat or V&H Propipe. There are others of course, but these 2 have all the good aspects...quality, performance & sound.

Had Short Shots on Kitty, my '04 Super Glide. Loved the way they sound and set off car alarms all over the city. Current owner (a gal) loves them as well. I would use foam ear plugs on long highway trips.

That's so funny. I've noticed that I set off car alarms too at times. When I ride to work it can be embarrassing in a ways because after I park and turn the bike off, there are like 5 or 6 car alarms going off around me haha.

Having had big radius pipes (and know how utterly shitty they perform and sound) the only exhaust that's worse are the short shots. They just perform badly and sound retardedly obnoxious.

I think the only way to run a worse pipe is to just run straight short open pipes. Anyone who says otherwise is just lying to you or lying to themselves.

The big shots are a decent pipe with the quiet baffles. Makes good performance and a little better sound.

However all that being said, I wouldn't put any Vance and Hines pipes on my bike again, with the exception of the pro-pipe. That crossover on the big shots does nothing and is just a gimmick. If you are buying an exhaust for looks only then It really won't matter but if you want good performance find a decently priced 2 into 1 pipe.
