My 01 FXD dives pretty bad also...to the point of the fender hitting the top of the crash bar mount and chipping the paint. I changed the oil to 10 weight and have not noticed any significant difference. I was thinking of rebuilding the tubes and going with even heaver oil.
Dirtdobber, where did you get spacers and are you putting the spacers between the fork caps and the springs?
Spacers and increased preload do nothing for brake dive. Squashing the spring only effects when the forks start to move. Once in motion you are a slave to the spring rate. Up the spring rate and problem solved.

Well, it seems to me that they are moving when it is diving...

You can use schedule 40 pvc piping available at most big box home centers and fairly cheap. Just measure the inside diameter of the tube and buy the size pvc closets to your diameter. don't buy the same size pvc as your diameter. You want room for the spacer to move. Make sure it says "Sched 40" on it (the pvc).
yes, you put the spacer between the cap and the spring.
Just as an example, my 49mm forks are ~1.75" in diameter. I bought 1.25" sched 40 pvc tubing because the outside diameter of it is 1.5' or so.
