Really confused as to what to to so I need you folks opinion please. When I bought my 03 WG, I bought a warranty with it ($900). Its only good for 2 years and my notes for 4 yrs. I'm thinking about cancelling it but not sure if I should. Reason being, timing chain tensioner. The warranty doesn't cover it, unless the oil pump is bad. The the tensioner, chain and pump needs replaced, so I'm told by a local shop, at the tune of $1500 bucks. The bikes only got 19K on the engine, is it time for a new tensioner or am I getting smoke? I watched a you tube video and a guy had 20K on his and said it looks brand new. I'm really confused. Give me some help here.
mine went at about 23k miles, it was the inner that went, they were replaced by previous owner, then at 38k miles the inner cam bearing went out and took out the crank, cams oil pump very expensive fix. Have someone check the cam chain tensioners just to be safe

If you don't trust the indi take it someplace else or have him show you the parts.
Inspecting the tentioers is easy. If they disintegrated the they can take out the pump. If both go then go with the upgraded hydrolic kit.
The only symptom I heard was my motor was noisier than normal, a lack of power and oil light came on.but mine was the inner cam bearing that went on it not the tensioners
If you need tensioners replace the inner cam bearings while your in there, I used the SE bearings, and I went with the SE upgrade kit
Have them inspected by someone you trust, you need a dentists mirror to inspect the inner one.
The inner wears faster than the outer so if the outer is over 50% worn you really should do them.
I have seen them do 45K and be ready to explode, I have seen them at 38K and look like brand new.
The trick to longevity is to replace them with the Cyco aftermarket pads and get the backs (rubbing surface) of the chains polished and then they'll go a lot longer.
