I have punched out screaming eagle pipes-VERY happy with the sound but I know they lack in performance. Thinking about the TH. Is the performance that great?
Most 2-1 exhaust systems will offer better performance. That being said, Thunderheaders have been around a long time. That must say something about the brand. My only complaint, since I've been running TH since '09 or so is the quality finish. My bike sat outside for most of it's life and in the South Carolina humidity, the TH rusted out on the headers near the collector very quickly. Gave me a reason to do a cheap customization......sand down the rust and go for a chrome/black scheme.
This was taken directly after final assembly due to cam upgrade. I painted the pipes at the same time since they were off the bike.
In short, yes! Not the very best but should be on the short list. As mentioned, been around a while and consistently pulls good numbers on lotsa different builds. I can confirm, finish quality leaves something to be desired, and they aren't without their own set of headaches... BUT, nothing sounds better on a TC! And the performance is not lacking.
Definitely worth considering.
Yeah, quality isn't the greatest. I've welded cracks in the bracket and pipe many times now but mine is heavily abused. I have it welded up pretty strong now. Performs pretty darn good for a small primary pipe. Mine is doing damn good on a 113. There's definitely pipes that would perform better. Absolutely nothing comes even close to the sound imo.
The T-Header DOES sound good. But, quality isn't there, IMHO. They seem fragile.
I prefer D&D(have one on my FXR) though, the Dyna is going to get a Pro Pipe. I have used D&D on several bikes, and I haven't been let down yet.
This is great stuff to know. A friend of mine has them but he had them Sherma Chromed (I hope I got that right) and I really don't care for the finish. I had heard that they had come out with a full shield (X series?) for touring and would have them soon for the Dyna. That's what I was waiting for. "BUT" for a 1K set of pipes it sounds like I could do a lot better (that includes installation, I hear they are a bitch to install)I have V & H now and they are ok but not great either.
