Default ?? on mounting Cavalry hard bags - Ideas needed.

I have a Fat Bob and need storage for trips, so I picked up a set of Cavalry saddlebags. The bags are pretty good quality and reasonable size.

My question is how to best mount them. Anyone have any experience or good ideas? Would appreciate the help.

Thanks in advance - vou

Here's what I've looked at so far ...

The stock Cavalry mount looks like the picture below. All the threads I've read say this mounting hardware is flimsy and bags flop around, often hitting the swing arm. It really does look like a pretty poor design.

I've looked at Easy Brackets (and it's Edge and Ghost Brackets competitors). I think the big flat back of the Easy Bracket will keep the bag stable - and drilling the extra hole in the bag is fine with me. But, the threads say these brackets rattle a lot on the mounting posts. I can see that happening. I thought about cutting a rubber bushing to keep things snug. That might work, but it's a workaround, not a real solution.

I like the Leather Pros clamp design, but I don't see they sell them separately and they don't fit a flat saddlebag back. The Cycle Visions Bare Backs won't work as they are just post mounts and I can't find a saddlebag support that will fit with them and the bags.

The guy I bought them from made his own from 1.5" steel bar. I am sure this worked, but I don't have a welder and the holes are too close together to use his. Here was his solution

The Previous owners Mounts look like the solution. Grind off the welds holding the old piece of flat iron that would bolt against the strut covers. Get a new piece of flat iron, drill the holes where they need to be, then mark where it needs to be welded to the 1.5"square tubing and take it somewhere to be welded on.

Part of the problem with the Cavalry mounts is how the bags fit onto the tube. The small tabs are flimsy (my first hand experience). I seriously would abandon the mounts in favor of the EZ mounts. My buddy has them on a set of Saddlemen bags and no rattles. I found them quite easy to install.

Dont know who said the edge brackets "rattle around on the posts" because they really dont. I have a pair of leather covered hard bags that I use just for trips, and the edge bracket is the easiest on/off solution with a lock. I have loaded them up and rode thousands of miles over 5 years and they are still as tight as the day i installed them.

If you are looking to leave the bags on all the time....then no, probably not the best, as they are unsupported at the bottom (which may be why someone would say they move around). But for temp storage on trips...they work great, and the mounting hardware is not noticeable when you strip it back down.
