I am looking for some advice from you Windvest owners out there. I have a 14x16 Windvest on my '07 Bob. No matter how I have tried to adjust it I still get a large amount of buffeting. I am 6'1" with forward controls and a stock seat. Has anyone found a good combination of height and tilt that worked for them? I would like to tryeverything I can tomake this work better before I scrap it and go to something else. Thanks!
Set your height to where you can easily see over the top of the shield. You've got an inch of adjustment in the windshield and an inch or so by reversing the handlebar clamps. The tilt of the shield makes a difference. Start with the front of the shield flowing pretty much with the line of the fork tubes and adjust forward or backwards from there. WhenI first got mine I was sick that I'd spent that much money and had such buffeting but I spent a few miles with an allen wrench and kept tilting back and forth til it went away.
A lot of the turbulance is coming from below.A small bag at the base of the shield on the inside helps. A tank lift helps a lot. Keep in mind that the Wind vest is not gonna keep that much wind off your face,it stops the big blast on your chest at high speeds.Tighten your helmet down good, hold the right strap while you snug the other side down real good.Reversing your mirrors keeps a good bit of wind off your sides but takes some getting used to since you're looking under your armpits to see behind.
I've often ridden for hours at 85 to 95 with the Windvest, almost seems the faster you go the better it feels, may have something to do with the lip at the top of the shield. Again, the tank lift probably makes the biggest difference in the airflow from below.
Don't give up,it will work and work fine. I've ridden many five to eight hundred mile days in comfort with the little shield and it looks better than any other shield you can buy.
Good luck! I have a windvest sitting on the bench and a Memphis Shades on the bike, all due to the same situation you are talking about.
I do wish you luck though.
Thanks for the comments! Which height adjustment level do you have yours on? Did you find tilting in or out to be most beneficial? I'm just looking to find the best place to start tweaking.
