KURYAKIN FORWARD CONTROLS
hey can anybody help me out here , what do you do with the original gear shifter shaft androd plate behind primary case when you add forwards. i have a cap to put on shaft but it still sticks out of primary about 3/4 of inch i notice a black plastic coated bracket that came with the kuryakin forwards but do not know what that is for, controls did not come with any directions does anybody have any suggestions, also does anybody know if there is a flush mount cap for these, thanks slickdad712
I put Kuryakyn forward controls on my Lowrider last weekend. You have two choices. You can use the cap and let it stick out (bad choice). Or you can push the shift rod all the way in and then move the lever towards the back of the bike and tuck it behind the bolt head on the engine case. If you go this route, the shaft will sit flush with the outer primary. Use the black, rubber coated piece to bolt to the old shifter linkage. It should cover the nut you tuck the linkage behind. NOTE: the supplied bolt for this does NOT fit. Go to Lowes and buy a stainless steel 1/2" long bolt to fit. Use the piece you took out to check the threads you need.
Or, if you really want to burn some $$$, you can buy a new chrome inner primary and while you have it apart putting it on, just pull the old shaft out. If you do that, you can get Harley part number 90357-89 to plug the hole in your outter primary. This is what I just did. Not cheap, but looks real good!

slick -
1) go to the kuryakyn website where you can download directions.
2) please supply the model year of your bike - inner primaries changed at some point and the year of your bike is important. I have a 2005 and the inner primary was different than previous years and the plate could no longer tuck behind the inner primary.
