an other thing I don't get my head around guys say I just changed my air filter , now ive picked up 3 extra hp, just by changing the filter???
Harley could save thousands$$$ in engine development if according too some a simple change in filter gives 3hp...at maybe a 50 cent per unit price increase for another filter design,, Some how I don't think so..
take 3 motors coming down the engine line at the same time. there is going too be varibles in each motor hp. its part off mas production not every motor puts out 100 % same hp too the dot some varibles 102 hp 102.5 hp or a slug 100 hp its part off engine making
The reasoning is a bigger, unrestricted air filter will allow more air to the combustion chambers, the an adjustment in the fuel mix will result in a little more HP. The stock filters are probably dirt cheap, then if you want to upgrade it's on your dime, that's the HD philosophy.
loopie Try this experiment plug your nose and breath through a straw and jog a half a mile like that. Then try it again breathing normal and let me know which method worked better for you. The stock air cleaner on the Harleys is pretty darn restrictive as far as flow is concerned. But it (the stock ) A/C does make the epa happy.
Harley doesn't put them on because, EPA regs and they have to give you a reason to buy parts. I used to build off road cars, there's good money in the initial purchase. But the real money comes from replacement and upgraded parts.
And op, I'm guessing you are also the kind of guy that thinks a tuner is a total waste too. If you are happy with the way it is stock and don't see a benefit, leave it stock

Grammar, spelling, and punctuation are important if you were wondering.
Harley probably uses "paper" filters across most of their product line for the same reason that just about every other vehicle manufacturer does:
In general, they remove dirt much better than the oiled gauze type, and don't load up (become restrictive) as soon.
Yes, the paper type tend to be a little more restrictive initially, so there's a small power loss. Tradeoffs.
