Default Wiring under rear fender

I'm going to be removing my rear fender for repaint soon due to some paint damage. When I painted it initially I bought some of the "weatherstrip tunnel" that's stuck to the bottom of the rear fender. The stuff the dealership sold me was smaller than original and a real PITA to pull the wiring through. Does anyone know somewhere else to get that stuff?

Thanks,

Matt

Cant you reuse the original/old one, and just glue it on?

personally i would never run wiring under the middle of the fender, ever! what a **** poor design from HD. If you run a search you will see what i do on dyna's i run shrink wrap around the inner fender rails and feed the wire though there. then you never have to worry about the tire rubbing though, so much cleaner... here is a shot from when i wired up my last fender mod

I did the same on my bike to have clearance for my air ride. No problems so far.

You can reuse the tunnel and use urethane adhesive, I have replaced my fender 2 yrs ago, still holding up. If you are planning to lower the bike, you might want to do what Joe(JRK5892) just said.

You can buy a new harness for about 50 bucks. For that money, I wouldn't worry too much about how I was going to tape the old one back in place.

You can buy new stuff from the stealership, but in my case all they had was a little smaller than what came on the bike, made it a PITA with the wiring, almost like pulling wires through the handlebars. I like Joe's idea, I couldn't believe how HD ran the wires from the factory when I pulled it apart. Joe, how do you attach the wires the fender or strut?

Thanks,

Matt

I spoke with a different guy at the stealership, seemed to know a little more. The harness for my WG is $140, so I'm out on that. HD does sell a kit, they call it conduit. The part# is 70540-02, it's $8.99. I'm going Joe's route though, seems like a better idea.

Thanks,

Matt
