I went to the HD dealer alnd looked at the many used bikes thereto get ideas on how to mount it. Tx required it to be "seen" from the rear is what I was told by a salesman. I decided to mount it like I did on my V-Star. under the bags, left sideon a chrome plate bolted to the frame. Sorry I didnt post a pic, none of m pictures show it very well. Wait a minute, maybe thats the whole idea... it doesnt show up very well.
The oddest thing............... The dealer I bought my 06 from in VA, September 05 had supplied a very nice retangular aluminumn mounting plate for my inspection sticker, and mounted it on the belt guard at purchase.
When I took the bike in for inspection in September 06, they inspected the bike for free (nice of them).
I never paid any attention to the sticker placement until the next day (100 mile ride home).
Son-of-a-gun............ the mounting plate was gone, and my new inspection sticker was mounted on the upper left fork tube.
I think that is where VA requires it, and they must of come down on the dealership for placing it on a separate plate.
Oh well, its where it is, now.............. 'til next time.
On my 2000 Wide Glide,
I have mine on a billet plate which mounts to the passenger peg mount bolt on the left side.
On the Road King, it is on a plate on the left side lower mount of the crash bar.
In North Carolina, the stickers are chrome, so they don't look so bad.
