Thanks for stating the obvious about cutting the wind. I was looking for something more exact like how much does it deflect the air? Does it hit you in the chest, face, or over the head?
As for it being "fugly" and over priced, there isn't a lot of choices. Memphis Shades makes a bat wing for the FB. But if you add up the price of the wing, mounting bracket, and windshield you are right up to the Dougz price. Plus you have to relocate the turn signals.
Well first off re-read your own questtion it's a general question so I gave you the obvious answer. It will cut wind for whatever is behind it right; for example if your tall and thick it won't do crap other than keep bugs off your chest unless you duck down while you ride - straight logic.
Yes cost wise the memphis shades batwing is about the same but judging by your picture IMO you would benefit more from the coverage of it but it makes youur FB look like a touring bike.
It's no fuglier than any other fairing, you don't like wind drive your car!

I am in the process of making the same decision for a 2013 Fat Bob purchased last fall. I don't mind the look of Dougz fairing. It would be nice to hear feedback from someone who has been riding with this one. I am also considering changing the dual headlamp for a single and going with an Arlen Ness style quarter fairing. Will be watching this thread!
I have also considered switching to the new HD LED single headlight and using a Ness style fairing. But it would be painful swiping the debit card on that purchase. lol
I'm not too fond about fairings either but if you think Dougz is overpriced (i think it is) maybe you like to take a look at the fairing made by Phil Birch (http://www.philbirch.nl). A friend of mine has one and i think it is surpprisinly cheap compared to others. No, i'm not shareholder, i just want to go a different option.
For an unbiased opinion, check out David Roe's editorial on the fairing in the January issue of HotBike Magazine. David and I are about the same height - 6' - so consider your height when forming an opinion on how much wind protection it'll offer you.
The fairing is considerably higher/wider than the one from Arlen Ness - I've got one of Arlen's on my FXRX-Wedge. Not knocking Arlen's in any way, I know his son Cory and consider Arlen/Cory and Zack to be excellent craftsmen, just responding to points made earlier in this thread. The top/rear edge is 6 inches above the top of the stock handlebar risers.
I hope others who have purchased the fairing will jump in on this thread to share their opinion of the quality, fit and finish. Many hours (weeks) were spent creating molds to end up with parts that have a smooth finish inside and out, unlike what you'll get with most fiberglass parts that are smooth on the outside only and raw fiberglass on the inside. The raw fiberglass could be 'smoothed out' but that will cost major $$$...
It certainly won't give a rider as much wind protection as the Memphis Shades Batwing, but for a 1/4 fairing it does offer more than most would expect it to.
Not sure what kind of warranty any other fairings have, but DOUGZ comes with a 14 day money back guarantee - only 'catch' is the buyer must pay return shipping, which is roughly 20-30 bucks depending on what part of the country you live in.
All the Positive feedback everywhere on the web is because I honestly care about my customers and do not rip people off - good advertising comes from happy customers - period.
I'm sure it cuts the wind some and renders your ride a little more aerodynamic, anything in front of you will cut down on wind even a piece of plywood or fork bag for that matter. I came close to ordering one of those but I looked at the pics a few more times decided that IMO it's over priced and way fugly.
Yep! It's definitely not my thing! Even if it was free I'd pass! There are much better looking batwings out there!
Don't let money be the deciding factor! In the end you're gonna have to look at that crap every day! So get something that blows you away! Not something that you can barely choke down! Believe me you'll be much happier in the long run!
Fairings are funny things, when it comes to them it's certainly an "eye of the beholder" thing.
I like fairings, I like wind being deflected to improve my ride and good looks.
This fairing is like Christina Ricci. She is a very cute woman but she has more forehead than many other cute women.
It may do a very good job at what it does, but you must consider that if you are going to marry it and like it.
If I was single and Christina Ricci was head over heels in love with me, I would marry her.
I don't know if this helps but if it does, all the better.
To the original poster, I have Dougz fairing on my FB and it does a very good job of keeping the wind off your chest letting a person ride longer than without any wind protection. No more sore neck from holding your head forward when the wind is hitting you full force with no fairing or windshield. I consider the $$ spent well worth it and remember the saying " you get what you pay for". If you want to keep the dual headlights it's the best option IMOP for what a 1/4 fairing is intended to do.
