No emotion here, just straight fact. You have a Dyna which can be made to rail the twisties or tour the country depending on how you mod it, it's paid off completely, and it only has 11k miles on it. If you trade it you'll eat your *** on the trade in and lose at least half the money you just finished paying on it, and get right back into a payment that is likely to be higher than the one you just got out of. Vehicles are only worth financing if you pay them off and continue to use them well past the time they are paid off. Trading it right after finishing paying on it is the same as if you leased it, except in this lease you lose your *** because you actually paid off the entire bike, plus all the interest.
I'm sorry man, but trading it is a huge mistake financially. If you've got the scratch to spare, do you, but even still it is a mistake.
I say mod it in stages so you don't spend a ton of money in one shot while you're unsure and ride the **** out of it. Hell man, it's barely broken in at 11k miles since 2008. If you do insist on selling it, please for the love of all that is holy do it privately so you don't lose as much.
Now that some of the excitement has worn off, I think I'll keep things fairly simple and with a 30/70 tooth pulley swap, then a fairing and cam upgrade. That should keep me satisified for a while
No payment is going to be nice, I think I'll enjoy it for a while.
I'd say keep the dyna and fix it up, because if you get the deluxe you will find the engine may be bigger, but the bike is heavier and still doesn't have the bling. Thats what I did with mine.
My suggestion is to go with a brand new bike if you are going to do it. I would trade your bike on a new one and use the $4,000 to do all of my mods. You will have a new modded bike personalized to you and a very low monthly payment.
If you are already getting the urge for a new bike, you will not be happy with just modding yours..
