I like the fit of the Sundowner and the wife likes it too. However that Mustang seat looks really nice as well. A real condumumdundrum you have yourself there. Good luck on your choice I'm sure you will be happy no matter.
I have a Sundowner that I don't use anymore since I got my lady an Iron for Christmas in 2012. It does sit you a little higher, but is otherwise a very comfortable seat.
I have a sundowner solo and add the sundowner p pad when she wants to ride, which is most of the time. I like it but if your reach is short the sundowner makes the ground farther away.
I have a sundowner , its ugly but so is the mustang . I have had several mustang seats including the wide vintage solo . hands down for me the sundowner is more comfortable
The seat on my SG was good for short rides but not comfortable for me for long rides. I ordered a Sundowner from my local dealer and we discovered that the one I had was a Sundowner that a previous owner had put on when I went to pick it up. The dealer kept the seat and it did not cost me anything. I got the same Mustang seat you are looking at, the Mustang Wide Vintage, from Two Guys for around $350 and I have found that it is far more comfortable for me for those long rides. Hey, but everybody's *** is different. What worked for me may not work for you. Good luck.
Thanks everyone. I sat on the Sundowner demo seat at a dealer today. It was comfortable but it raised me up enough that I didn't like how it felt when I put my feet on the ground. I wasn't as sure-footed. I'm 6' tall and I don't see how anyone shorter than me could use it.
So I still don't know what to do....
The thing I like the most about the Mustang Wide Vintage with the passenger seat is that the passenger seat gives a little more support for the lower back than the Sundowner. That was my biggest complaint about the Sundowner, my lower back and butt just could not take more than 2 hours in the saddle before I had to get off and walk around.
Since the OL don't want to ride with me, (and I am OK with that...) when I get around to repainting, I am going to go with a solo Mustang Wide Vintage with the back rest...
