I was fortunate to be able to exchange my "old" version Daymaker for the "new" version at my local HD dealer. Like the guy above me said, the light output on the old is great straight out in front of the bike, but the 5 or so feet directly in front of the bike was pitch black and peripheral light was nonexistent... If I would have adjusted it down anymore, then sweeping turns would have been sketchy as all hell...
Make sure you get the new model. Check out Surdyke or Kastle (I think it's called). There's one other one that's cheap too. L-S something or other...
Not a chance. I spoke with another dealer who laughed at me at the thought of exchanging the old ones for the new ones. Unless you know someone at the dealer, there is no benefit for them to swap. Harley never acknowledged a problem with the original Daymakers so there is no recall. They just call it a "design change" when those of us who have used both know better...
I rode last night with the new Daymakers - holy Shiite what a difference! These things are beyond freaking amazing. I also have the Custom Dynamics LED 'white halo' running lights/turn signal LEDs up front (with CD red LEDS aft). My bike is a glowing orb rolling down the road.
Daymakers - big thumbs up. My dealer's service dept? Not so much - they "forgot" to give me back all the OEM parts. I'll be calling them in a few (They delivered the bike to my house so I didn't discover the missing parts til last night when I got home)
