Default Plugs and wires

Hey everybody what's up?
Getting excited about this year's riding...can't wait till the weather cooperates a little!
I gotta change the plugs, and it's just my thing I do the wires as well.
But I didn't realize there was such a choice. I see wires ranging from 8mm to over 10mm.
I have a '10 Dyna FXDC. Would a larger diameter size wire equate to better performance, gas mileage, etc. or does it not matter that much?
Thanks.

I heard that thicker wires don't do **** but I was building my bike and got some iridium NGK plugs and black set of the screamin eagle 10mm wires. Whether it does anything,,,??????? But she's running fine.

I've heard that unless you have internal engine mods and an upgraded ignition system the bigger wires don't do anything for performance and all that. I know I had some screamin eagle wires on a couple bikes and didn't notice any difference.

Are you saying you change your wires every year?! Well, this is America and God Bless the USA as the saying goes, but what the heck are you doing to those plug wires that you feel compelled to do that! That's like building a new tunnel every year for the subway to run through, just for the sake of building a new tunnel.
And God Bless the USA while I'm at it and all our allies Here's to our Allies and friends

Now then, do you have a problem with wire eating Boweevils up there or do bears eat them wires or what?

For the pure sake of performance, I really cannot fathom there could be any noticeable difference in changing out plug wires, even for a larger core, unless you are a drag racer and leave nothing to chance.

But like Bill Murray said about that one dude in the movie Stripes, if you need to change your wires every year then dude, I want to party with you

Cheers, welcome, post a pic of your bike, and those worn out wires

I didn't notice any difference, but those big fat blue 10mm wires sure do match my bike well

NGK Iridiums and SE orange wires here. Careful about aftermarket wires, Many will not play well with the ECM.

You never mentioned how many miles were on the plugs & wires. We are all running unleaded gas, so you should get at least 30,000 on a set of plugs. Inspect them. Are they carbon fouled, oily or is the electrode burned off? Check for the proper gap while you're at it. As for plug wires, OEM's are just fine for stockers. After 5 years I replaced the plug wires. I'm running 8mm SE wires on my Dyna and on the Wife's XLH 1200 Custom ... but we're in Texas and it get's a little warm here in the summer, so a lil more insulation isn't going to hurt. The 8mm wires didn't do jack s**t for the performance or mpg.
