Primary tensioner replacemente overdue! See for yourself...
Just replaced the primary tensioner with an eBay generic...fit like a glove, we'll see how long it lasts!
Before and after pic...old tensioner (yellow) and new one being installed (white)
Paid $10 for the whole job...didn't look that hard to do, I'll probably do it myself next time.
Also, what primary fluid would you recommend? I've heard some people use ATF, others use power steering fluid...please don't give me names, give me oil weight and viscosity!
I am not real familiar with the tensioners, but that one doesn't look that bad...at least in the pic.
You figure, the chan will wear in until the roller part is gliding along the pad...then the rollers will wera into the pad. looks like the roller part is flush with the outer part where no chain would be rubbing.
Again, maybe it's just the pic and I am not seeing it correctly?
I just replaced mine last year with the Hayden spring loaded unit and got rid of the ratcheting stock one. Will be doing the same to my brother's.
A good 10w40 motor oil is about all you need for the primary. The oil is to keep the chain lubed and splashes oil up to the clutch plates to keep them cool.
Not a big fan of HD oils but guys are seeing the best results with the HD 360 oil. If the comp didnt sling all its oil out from the center of the compensator id run tranny fluid.
