I did a search and did see some talk about this but no real answer to the two following questions:
Is it worth the $100+ ?
Which one should I use?
The H-B hydraulic looks very good
The M6 looks like I would still need to do maintence every 10-15k so why bother
The harley from what I read in my search tends to to tighten too much.
IMO, an auto tensioner is an unneeded luxury. I have had to adjust my primary chain once in 65k miles. It's not hard to stick a finger in the hole and check it every time you change the primary oil. Besides, an auto tensioner is not a set and forget item. The shoe is still gonna wear out and needs to be checked every now and then.
I run an M6 and wouldn't have anything else. It applies the correct amount of tension and prevents any primary slop. shifting is improved and you eliminate the clunk. No maintanence is required, just visually inspect when you do a primary oil change.
you can buy for less than a $100 from Wallys Cycle World and several others.
I was looking at the M6 too. Checked out Wally's Cycle World as suggested here. Great price at $75.00. Thanks for the information.
I've also heard mostly good things about auto tensioners and M6 in particular. From quieter clutch operation to smoother shifting. I'm sold and will be ordering the M6 today.
