A-Z Challenge
Here’s Pleasantville, NY instead. Sadly my inadequate photography skills produced a perfectly in focus handlebar and a blurry sigh. Oh well.
‘Was going to ride down to Queens, NY but it’s too far*, or I’m too lazy. Not sure which.
*Far for that particular time. It’s only about 40 min away.

I found that spot at NY141...

I was cruising that area last year May after I shipped my bike to the USA for a 4 weeks trip...
Check out this post for some pictures.
Met and rode with 2 HDF forum members and visited Woodstock Music Festival ground in Bethel, OCC and Motorcyclepedia Museum in Newburg, former Indian Motorcycles factory building in Springfield, and West Point Military Academy.
Did you know that there's a lot of Dutch history in the Hudson River area?

I am familiar with some:
New Netherlands/Amsterdam
Tappan Zee
I grew up on Van Cortlandt Avenue in the Bronx
Bronx, from Jonas Bronck
I used to hang around an area of the river called Spuyten Duyvil.
And it goes on...
So yes, just a bit.
I road all the way down to the Whitestone Bridge to get a photo of the only "Welcome to Queens" sign I know of, for the next letter "Q", and after battling my way through NYC potholes (yes, they're even on bridges and highways), I get to where the sign should be. Only to find it gone. Dug up. A giant trench as the result of never ending NYC road construction... So while I have evidence of my journey, no actual photo of the "Welcome to Queens" sign. So my mission failed.
You should have heard the 10 minute rant of profanities my helmet cam caught. I was going to post it but its probably not a good idea. So here are some photos:
The approach to the Whitestone Bridge on the Hutchinson River Parkway. The bridge connects Bronx, NY to Queens, NY.
The NYC Skyline, about half way across the bridge. (crap helmet cam, sorry its not clearer. It's pretty majestic at night)
A NYC pothole, albeit not a bad one. I've had rims bent by bad ones... Its a good thing that my Power Vision speed readout wasn't captured. Because I was going a hell of a lot faster then 40...
The approach to the Cross Island Pkwy entrance where the Queens sign would have been.
And this is what I expected to see...
But got this instead... Ugh!
So I don't know if this makes it. I expect no. And if not, I'm going to have to pass on "Q" since the only other town I know is "Quogue" all the way the hell out on the east end of Long Island and I'm not going for a 4 hr round trip of probably the least scenic riding I can imagine lol.
