Default from FXDXT to adventure tour KTM?

Hey all.
just put a year on my FXDXT. great bike tons of fun. did a few trips and it performed better than I would of imagined. I have recently been looking at the adventure tour bikes and thinking it might be a good switch?

anyone have any experience with these?

thanks for the input

I came from the ADV world to Harley myself. Been riding bmw's, Ktm's, and Klr's for many years. Just this year I went to a dyna as I have small children and touring state to state, and into Mexico is not in my near future at this point.
A lot of fun, great bikes, and adventures to be had. Check out the adv forums, or clubs in your area. There are a ton of great rides when you consider all the dirtroads, back roads and hidden areas open to you.

Im sold though, I had no idea my HD would be this fun!

if i were buying a new adventure bike, the ktm 1190 is the top of my list. well the diesel klr is but they dont sell em to civilians.

edit: its a very different ride from a dyna. if your used to putting in long hours in the saddle you'll find yourself stopping more often due to lack of foot positions/wigglablitily

The KTM 1190 is at the top of my non-Harley wish list. So many times while I'm out for a ride, I spot a dirt road/trail that I'd just love to explore, but don't think my FXD would appreciate the beating...

I wish Harley would have made an Adventure bike instead of the hideous Street 500/750. :-)

If you have the means I'd suggest both.

Agreed. The KTM adventure bikes are incredible fun, but as someone said, the long range comfort is......different, the seat is narrower and the seating position is an aggressive stance that keeps your body a bit more tense. They aren't uncomfortable, that would be a mis-stated description, but they just keep the rider in a full-alert position. (Not necessarily a bad thing, it just wears you down quicker.)

thank you for the info.... it is really the long range I was concerned about... all the distance riders seem to use them but I was wondering??

love my dyna but curious!

Neighbor and his wife have a handful of BMW's and will ride thousands of km in a long weekend; NONE of it on a freeway...I've ridden with him on our secondary highways and he'll ride for miles standing up; that's one way to give your butt a break if you're in good enough shape to do it; I'm sure you are...
Dealer once gave me a Ulysses for the day; WOW; that encouraged some behavior I couldn't do with my Dyna. Used to ride off-road back in the BSA days too; lots of nice fire trails and log roads on Vancouver Island back then...go for what you want and enjoy it...today is the youngest day of the rest of your life!
I know there was a buyer in Calgary who came in a close second on your bike.
