My bike just all of a sudden started throwing 2 codes today. First for the crank position sensor P0373 and second loss of idle speed control P0505.

First question is can my PC5 cause these? Should i take the bike back to stock or is that a waste? Second how common is the crank sensor to go out and can i rest it? The bikes a 2010 wide glide with about 10,000 miles.

If and when i can get the bike started it dies at idle. But if i hold it at about 3 grand it stays running, sometimes until i bring it back to idle and sometimes it will just cut out, and sometimes it will continue running. Sometimes the rpms will stay at 3k and other time they will bounce down then back up. Its not consistent. The PCV is about 6 months old if that and havent had any other problems out of it yet. Another thing is that now the bike isnt throwing any codes once ive switched the ignition off this time.

The crank position sensor triggers the firing sequence by reading a notch on the flywheel. That's most likely why you can't hold an idle. That's the little black sensor that is on the front of the engine that is in the way during oil changes.

Right but i need to figure out if its good or not. With the plug wires disconnected it is showing RPMs. I read thats a way to check it?

I had that issue, same codes, and finally traced it down to a faulty ground - one of the rear light wires had chaffed - fixed it, cleared codes, and no more issues. I'd start with looking at any work recently done and check wiring in those area's - then move to area's where there is movement - if you've adjusted/changed handlebars I'd also check the turn signal wires in the hand-controls. good luck....

Found the problem...a split wire going to the turn signal/security module
