Hey man I just bought a fatbob last month. I was pretty nervous about the size jump myself. I've always riding sport or dirt bikes. The forward control and weight difference (400lbs to 700lbs) had me a little nervous. Within 10min of riding I knew I made the right choice. Weight is different but she rides smooth and handles pretty damn good as far as I'm concerned. I say around and over thought the hell out of it. Ear to ear grins here.
From reading all the comments, John the Harley salesman wasn't just trying to make another sale or blow smoke up my ***. It might be good weather this weekend so I'm gonna spend some time doing maneuvers in the parking lot, and maybe put some miles on this "Beast" to get used to it...Thanks for the comments
I really like the Fatbob and almost did the same thing...but then I tried a Switchback and got that instead! In any case the change from the 883c to this may have been a big step in some folks eyes, but truthfully I am more comfortable with the way it drives and handles. A year later I still love the larger bike...no desire for a bigger one either.
I have been riding bikes for about 10 years now and because of my ADD and boredom potential, I go through a few.
I've had a couple ducatis(Monster and Diavel), a BMW S1000RR and then the FatBob. I had the Diavel in the garage when I picked up the FB last May. Needless to say, the Diavel didnt leave the garage all last summer.
I loved riding my FB so much that I ended up selling the Diavel a couple months ago because I just didnt enjoy it anymore.
The FB rides so well and effortlessly, I cant even tell it weighs almost twice as much as my other bikes. All the weight is way down low so its extremely easy to maneuver around.
You made a great choice and youll recognize that after the first 100 feet of riding. Enjoy!
FINALLY! A beautiful day in PA. "GRACE" and I went out for a Sunday ride. WOW!! Am I FUC**'N IMPRESSED!! What looked like an intimidating bike turned out to be a smooth riding, torque providing, gentle of a beast! What a difference over my Sportster(still miss her though). !! No more stiff ride & feeling all the PA potholes. No more constantly shifting gears up & down. And no more aching butt when I dismount (still miss her though). Not quite used to the turns & corners yet..but getting used to "GRACE". But as bdtaylor1979 said, "You will adapt to the extra weight within 100 miles. At some point you'll wonder why you didn't make the change earlier". AMEN brother!
