Default Speedometer trouble - 2000 Wide Glide

So took the bike out this past weekend and everything ran great except midway home the speedometer on my 2000 Wide Glide started intermittently working. The Needle would drop to zero, then kick back on minutes later for a few seconds, then stop working again.

When at home I ran the diagnostic mode by holding in the reset button and turning on the ignition and found comes d01 and d02 had been triggered. I cleared them, and found d 01 trigger immediately again. Both of these codes state there is a low end range speed sensor issue and high end range speed sensor issue.

My question is, has anyone dealt with this before, and if so what was the solution? If not, would you just order a replacement speed sensor, or is there some way to clean or recall rate it (external housing is clean and free of debris)?

Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

When you clear the error and it comes right back, there is a problem. Speedo sensors are cheaper than speedometers. Go ahead and change it.

Try removing the speed sensor and give it a cleaning, cheap and takes no time before buying a new one, crud can build up on them over time

Thanks guys will give it a good cleaning, and if problem persists I'll go ahead and change it. Never installed one before, any tricks/calibration that needs to take place or is it just plug and play?

+1 on cleaning the speed sensor. It's located at the r/h side on top of the gear box, item # 39 in this diagram.

A new one is just plug and play!
