I currently own a 2014 switchback which I really dig... but last weekend I decided to get something a little sportier to compliment the switchback... so I bought a 2005 super glide custom... all I can say is WOW... what a fun bike to ride... So much fun I HAD to share
Thanks! is there a point where you need to look into it from a mileage standpoint or... should you just take a look in general? I ask as it has about 12000miles on it.
The service manual doesn't list it as check item, H-D just swept the issue under the rug and quietly upgraded the tensioner system for '07-up Big Twins...there's plenty of material if you do a search on the web, or even this forum...
I'd check the tensioners for wear on the plastic shoes every time you change your oil...if you see orange shavings (from the plastic tensioner shoe) you should probably stop the bike altogether. Seeing as you have a Switchback, that shouldn't be a problem...
This is how your tensioners look when you remove the cam chest cover on a 2005 Dyna...well, kind of like that, but a lot cleaner I'm guessing...
Nice clean bike. Kudos for adding a second Dyna. Now you can go wild with customization since you already have a Switchback for multi-purpose stuff.
The tensioner thing seems to be an issue to check and resolve prior to 20k miles based on what I've read here. As Noob can attest, you don't want to let it fail, so your better off sooner rather than later.
