VIED Settings Dyna
[I]You can alter the front/rear balance if you want, but the HD EFI actually understands there is an inherent in-balance between the cylinders and has compensated for it (in the VE tables). While I never altered my front / rear cylinder balance, there is nothing to prevent you from experimenting. You really cannot hurt anything.
There is nothing wrong with the Stage 1 download, but no overwhelming reason to get it because it does not richen the fuel mixture (the AFR tables are not changed because that would put the Dealership and H-D in violation of Federal and state emissions regulations). It makes some changes to the VE tables, ignition advance and raises the RPM limit. The major disagreement we have with this download is the cost. Most Dealers charge $149 + $75 shop time for a total of $225 (average across the US). This is way too high for something we consider the Dealers/HD should provide for $100 or less (the download cost the Dealer $75, HD should give it to them for $25 or less).
Considering that exhaust/ac upgrades do not specifically need the S1 download for the engine to run, it is hard for us to recommend it unless the Dealer is going to provide it to a Rider for $125 (out the door) or less.
FYI: I do not have it in the 08 Dyna.
Most Riders like the 75% setting for the VIED on their bike like a 09 Dyna. 75% is a 13.8 AFR setting, 50% is a 14.0 AFR.
I happen to like a 14.0 setting on my own 08 Dyna.
To get down to an AFR of 13.8:1 means biasing the sensors to 820mV or more. That's not only going to give pretty inaccurate readings, it will also reduce the life of the sensors and it might also have the bike throwing codes.
I think your idea of 50% on the Vied is a good one.
I was wondering the exact same thing, having browsed through the various EV/voltages diagrams that I've found online. However, I'm a complete noob when it comes to electricity stuff, so maybe someone else has the answer?
