UPDATE, Bill got back to me already.. the landing pads have been in R&D for a year, been tested throughly by guys like Logan Lackey aka WheeliePig from the Unknown crew:

You can actually see the landing pad on the frame in that picture.

He said he's never seen one damage a cam cover or engine case, but he has welded many motor mounts back together on bikes without one...

Who sells that kit?

It's called a "Landing Pad"

You place it here, under the cam cover on the frame:

To prevent you from dealing with this:

I guess it leaves about a 3/8" gap under the cover to allow for regular movement, but will come in contact with the cam cover if you drop the front end hard. In theory it makes sense, saves excessive strain on the motor mounts.

Anyone ever see one, or know any details on them?

Dudes name is Bill, owns a small fab shop in Cali. He's a super chill old guy that just wants to "help out the young kids".

I deleted his contact info as he requested me not to distribute his personal info online.

Update, got the Landing Pad and installed it. Hardest part was removing the factory exhaust bracket from the cam cover, which HAS to be done to provide adequate clearance for motor movement.

So far it looks pretty good, I guess it's hard to tell if it'll actually work. I know the guys in Cali rocking these things thrash there bikes harder than what I do and if they can stand up to that abuse I'm sure I'll be ok.

I also picked up another one for a buddy of mine, we'll put some hard miles on and give our feedback.

If this turns out to be a product I like and believe in, I may become the distributor for these North of the border.

Seems like a good idea, I'd like to see some pics of your bike standing up now! Does it interfere with the normal movement of the engine at all or at idle? Seems like the frame should have a normal stop built in to limit the motor mount travel.

I stopped doing wheelies when I made the switch to a harley, but I still miss doing them. What speed are you doing them at, 1st gear? It is a lot of weight to slam down if you're coming down quickly.

I still do wheelies.....lots of 'em.
But it's always strictly on my sport bikes.
Either my all-out street illegal race bike ZX6R or the few months old ZX14R, which is a ridiculous awesome blast to ride by the way.
Never ever ever on a Wide Glide........never.

Any updates on how this has worked for you?
Is the black material on there plastic or a hard rubber?
I would think that that piece restricts the movement of the engine to the point of it almost being like a solid mount.

Is it best to own one of every bike and just go home and get a different one depending on the situation? Seems like it could get costly and there would be a lot of people waiting on you to keep going back and forth depending on if you wanted to be comfortable, turn a corner, do a wheelie, race a buddy or stop quick. I mean, what if I was on a trip hundreds of miles from home, nice and comfy on my dyna and decided I wanted to do a wheelie or rail some corners? Do I pay to have the bike shipped home and another sent out? Surely that would get expensive and time-consuming. What if an old lady pulls out in front of me and I need to stop in a hurry? Do I ask her to wait there while I go grab another bike that'll stop in time? Sounds inconvenient. Reminds me of elementary school, "I could totally run faster than you if I had my other shoes on". Run what ya brung and hope you brought enough. I just built mine to do what I want, for around the price of a new dyna, I guess I did it wrong. This must be why Jay Leno has so many cars and bikes, it's genius. Wish I knew all this before I wasted all my time and money.

On topic, the cases where this pad is designed to hit are a lot thinner than the area pictured breaking. I think I'd rather have an issue with the motor mount than drain my oil onto the rear tire after coming down from a wheelie. Either way, if this is an issue and you're dropping it down that hard you simply need to learn how to wheelie. There's no reason to be slamming the front end down.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but This is perfect. I'm sick of trying to get answers and only hearing "stop doing wheelies" or "buy a sport bike". Id also like to know who is running one of these and how they work
