I tried the search and didn't see what I was looking for....and I have asked a couple exhaust questions already....but I was wondering?
I bought some 8" baffles to make my own exhaust with and figured I'd just stick themin the stock head pipes just for ***** and giggles, but they wouldn't fit. Damned O2 sensor! So I cranked my bike with just the headpipes (straight piped) just for more ***** and giggles. Does anyone know of any hardcore facts of motor damage due to straight pipes on a fuel injected motor?? I don't wanna hear all the noise ordinance BS either.....I've heard of the lean issue, but heard of some people running just straight pipes on a FI 96B also. I'm sure I'll end up putting the baffles in it, but was curious.

It really doesn't matter if it's carbed or injected, though the injected motors are abit leaner. unless you can tailor your fuel you will sooner or later burn a valve, you also hurt your torque curve, by removing the mufflers you have shortened the pipes it will probably start popping and cracking through the pipes and performance will drop off. straight pipes are only good for wide open throttle like at the dragstrip.J.M.O.

i concur
your already running on the lean side, this will just make it run a little leaner, which will make it run hotter and then the other possible issues associated with all that.
you will notice a significant drop in low end torque without them too. you might be able to tune some of it out but probably not.
interesting that they've moved the 02 sensors down so low now, mine are up almost by the heads.
Yeah I figured it'd hurt my lower end torque some.....I'm gonna put the baffles in first and see how they sound and to get some back pressure back. Thinking about what the baffle was hitting when I tried to slide it in I'm thinking itmight have beenthe crossover tube as the O2 is up near the heads. I didnt spies on it long....it was late. Well I'm gonna see about the baffles I got from drag specialites first before thinking of straight piping.
