I am taking a trip from Michigan to the Tail in September and would like to get a bit more performance out of my bike before the trip. It is an 08 Super Glide and I was thinking Cams and a 2 into 1. The parts I was looking at are Feuling 543 cams and Bassani Roadrage. My bike is primarily a commuter/barhopper with maybe a long trip once a year. My question is whether or not this would be a reliable affordable setup or if there is a different route I should go. I would also like to do something that would allow to build off from. Here are the specs for the Feuling 543.
Those are some interesting cams, very similar spec-wise to the Andrews 54, which has a great rep. They could use some added compression but you did say you planned to continue modding the engine, a Big Bore with added compression would be sweet.
Which model of the Bassani RR are you looking at? Mine for instance are great for looks and sound but not for power.
I would like to go with the Black Short Megaphone and the Powervision. Would it be a big problem if I did the cams without the compression work or I guess I'm wondering the cost involved. I am extremely green when it comes to all of this. I'm kind of looking for best bang for buck.
It wouldn't be a problem, it might just end up a little soft on the bottom. It'll still really wake it up through the middle and top. Don't skimp on a good tune.
Your plan is fine, the Bassani model number you are wanting are the 13122J or the 1D12RB Mega Power. On the Mega Power the head pipes come together in front of the cam chest then go back where the 13122J do not come together until after the cam chest - both #s are for black. Both choices are better than my 1D5250s.
The Power Vision is a very good fuel tuner but just know there is no substitution for a dyna tune(~ $400). The more modifications you do to your engine the more important a dyno tune becomes. A ton of people bypass a dyno with just a Stage 1 but with cams it becomes more difficult to find a near perfect map for your PV to use - your call.
You do have an aftermarket air cleaner? Make sure you or whoever changes your cams changes out the inner cam bearings on the install.

I just did a similar, but bigger build (574, 1D12RB Mega Power and a 106" kit) and so far I'm loving it...
Give Feuling a call, I did when planning my work and they were quite helpful with regard to which cam will work for you. I'm sure the 543 will be great and if you do a big bore or heads later it'll be even better!
The tune isn't much of a problem. There is a hidden gem here in West Michigan. Basically A guy living in the swamp with a dyno and son who graduated from MMI. It makes me pretty glad to hear that there isn't any major issues with the Bassani pipes and
Actually calling Feuling is a hell of an idea. Thanks for all of the advise guys.
