haha, funny you should ask!... my stock Bob always handled better when I had my German helmet strapped on... now that I have the 48 bars on it I need to be wearing a red plaid hipster shirt for it to handle as well ...
Nice!!
I knew it!
That's cool though...keep those comments coming......
Not sure about your area, but here at some smaller shops(run by real bikers) they will take your bars off(leaving controls attached) and set a few different ones on for you to get feel before buying. This helped me alot and made picking the right bars much easier.

Wow...that sounds really cool.....but no. I live in Knoxville and there is no shop around here like that. Also, I need feedback from people that are running these bars now and know how they handle.
My first two bikes had apes. I thought they handled really well. Then I went through a sportbike and dragbike phase. With that for comparison, I wouldn't dream of riding with apes again. There's a reason you almost never see them on sportbikes or race bikes.
I put apes on all my bikes because it handles better for me in turns. Stock bars you really have to work to turn. Taller you just glide. Just my opinion

Yep. The bikes made to handle the fastest and lean the farthest have the shortest controls...
However, since none of us are competing to win any races on city streets and highways, we can sacrifice a bit of handling for a bit of comfort. I used to ride with 19'' apes and while now I think they were probably too tall, taking curves was very easy because pushing the bars took very little effort due to the pullback those apes had.

Yup, I agree completely. If I wanted a sport bike, I would have kept my Ninja 800. It cracks me up the guys who are always trying to see how fast they can go or race each other on the Dragon. I'm like, "man, if you really want to show off how fast you are, go get a number and a sponsor and hit the track with REAL racers...then we'll see how good you really are...otherwise it's just silly."
The rest of us bought a mortorcycle to enjoy the ride and that's just what I am trying to do. Thanks, FXD, for getting it, and the feedback.
Anyone have any problems with hand numbing with taller apes on long rides?
