I have a '12 fxdwg with the 96 cubic inch engine. When I am riding in 6th gear the engine clatters. has anyone else had a issue like this? Is it an octane issue? I run highest octane I can get at the pump. It doesn't do it in any other gear.
I was gonna say if it's maybe pinging that you hear coming from the motor cause of a bad tune, but if that's the only thing u have then it's probably not it.
Give over the entire bike and check how tight your heat shields are, pipes to the heads(those are known to rattle loose), check gas tank front and rear bolts(my buddies were loose and he only heard it in higher gears). Just double check the basics, those are the items that are always overlooked.
