Just came back to a Harley after a few years on a ST1300. Bought a used Street Bob. It has been modified with Vance and Hines short pipes and a Roland Sands air cleaner. My question, has the EFI been reprogrammed as needed. I know diddley about EFI. All my Harleys before had Carbs.
The bike runs great the little I have rode it so far. No backfiring, popping etc.
The former owner is not available. I think he may be in Aphganistan. How can I determine the state of the efi. Do I need to take it to a dealer? What is he gonna charge? Is there a way to see if it will rev above 5600 (to 6200)? What speed should it hit the rev limiter in what gear? No tach as you know. Where do i look for a fuel programmer if it is present? Should I get the vance and hines programmer or something else? I can read plugs at least I could on bikes in the 50's, look for blistering etc. I know this is a lot of ?'s thanks for the help....
My guess is it probably has had a programmer or something done, if you dont have decel popping. Take the seat off, and see if there is a programmer tucked in there. It would be piggy backed off the ecu harness.
A dealer can tell you if the bike's had a download, or possible been flash tuned. It's good info to have, but as long as the bike is running fine I wouldn't worry about it.
Welcome to the forum and congrats on the bike.
+2 on pulling the seat and check for a tuner.
I would not consider going to 6,200 limit. your already loosing power way before then.
If you do a engine build then consider upping the limiter.
Yes I was thinking the rev limiter would tell me if it has been programmed. The bike is an 07. I am assuming it is stock with the exception of the pipes and air cleaner. Checked under the seat. Nothing looks like a programmer. My nearest dealer is Rossmeyers mega dealership north of Daytona. Have a feeling just talking to them might be expensive. Looked at the plugs. do not look lean. Maybe I will take it in just for peace of mind. I am coming up on my 75th b-day and this may be my last bike so I want to baby it all I can. Thanks for the advice and info..........Dave.
