Default One more fork question

2001 fxdwg

After filling the forks with oil does it matter if the front is off the ground when tightening the fork caps , or should it be on the ground with weight on the forks( slightly compressed by the weight of the bike)?

What are you using to set your oil level or are you measuring it out? I believe the book says the forks should be all the way extended when filling, springs in. Once the oil is in you should actuate the forks several times to remove the air. That should answer your question.

Measured it out

12 oz using a quality measuring cup the ex wife left here 5years ago when she left.

Now it's in the garage .

Put 12oz back in. That's what is spec'd.

Seems fine just wasn't sure if it matters up or down when tightening caps . Guess it doesn't

The forks should be extended. The volume of air does make a difference.

If the tubes are not fully extended your going to be really hard presses (pun intended) to get the caps back on.
