I run an HD detachable as well... not the shorty.. and not the touring.. I guess its the sport model.. love it.. get some buffeting from time to time.. (its no fairing) but the amount of road noise it cuts down on and the number of times it has kept a rock or, bird poop or a big bug from cracking me in the face, neck or head has been well worth it.. wont ride without one..
I'm 5'7 and I just bought a HD Detachable 18" from a member here. Man it makes a big difference when your running down the highway without all that pressure on your chest. And it's easier to handle the wind gusts. I would ask in the WTB section. I got a great deal on a used one. There's someone that has a closet queen.. lol Just my 1/2 cents worth..
I use Hd's touring windshield im 6ft and love it but only use it on longer rides to hot to ride around town with it on. It has saved me from large bugs and a bird on the highway. not much buffeting either almost non to be honest.
I have a HD quick detatch on my super glide I use for long rides. The buffeting that comes up under the windshield and around the tank is almost worse than having no windshield at all for me.

I have a HD quick detach and a Windvest. Both sit on the shelf and collect dust. Way too much buffeting. The Windvest is worst, I get so much buffeting my head hurts and my cheeks get sore from my beard flapping up and slapping me. I know the Windvest works great for most people, but not for me. A couple miles at highway speeds and I turned around and went back home and took it off. I think part of the issue is the angle I run it at, but I only had about 1/2" angle adjustment cause it would either hit the bars or the headlight.
If anyone is interested in buying either, PM me...
Check with Riffle Windshields.
They have a bracket that will angle your shield parrell to the forks and results in little or no buffeting.
Also they have very good windshields or you can do as I did, have them make a custom .
