Your fuel petcock is working fine, when the bike is off it should not flow fuel , the engine vacuum opens the fuel valve, that is why you get fuel flow when engine is running or when trying to start it, if look behind the fuel petcock you should see a small hose attached to it and going to the intake manifold

Well, I got it working today. Came home from work and checked the spark and it appeared to be fine. Carb was good and clean. With everything put back together, it still ran very funny as if the timing was off. I looked at pictures of other Dynas online to see which spark plug wire went where, and mine were opposite of all of the ones I saw. I switched them around and it ran better than it ever did (I never switched these wires around, but let me know if this actually makes any difference). I also noticed that the cover over the ignition coil had dug into and cut the rubber around the spark plug wire and was shorting whenever it was on. I wrapped up the ends in electrical tape (temporary till the new wires are shipped) and I was good to go.

I'm not sure if it was the carb or just the wires the whole time, but man, was that frustrating trying to figure out. Maybe it was the extremely dirty carb that caused it to die, but the wires that wouldn't let it start back up. Who knows...? Thank you everyone for all of the help and quick responses.

Glad you were able to figure it out and it will be a cheap fix! Enjoy the holiday weekend and I hope you get some riding in. Pouring here in NY but it is supposed to clear by tomorrow evening so I plan to get out and put a few miles on mine.

-1 sounds like maybe there is a practical joker in your midst, of course if you cross those wires the timing will change. the rear wire would never reach the front cyl so the only way to switch them is there at the coil and you know these things aren't hooked up just random.

-2 I would lay money it was indeed the shorted wires that have been cauising the problem. But boy you sure went through the wringer on that one, I'm happy to see you found the problem!
