Handlebar changing--advice needed

If you don't have to introduce a wire splice into your ride... don't do it. Take your time to fish your connectors out of the backbone, and depop them.
If you simply have to splice, because you need to add length ( taller bars... like I did) then take your time, and make a damn good splice. I soldered mine, cleaned the excess flux off, and then covered in a adhesive lined heat shrink (seals moisture out) plus adds strength to joint area.
If you've never done this before, and can't bribe someone close by who has, with beer... then give yourself a whole damn day... it's your time, don't schedule like they do at "work".
