I always thought that more fuel ment cooler engine.. fuel tend to cooldown the cylinders.

and lean ment more power..

atleast that what i always thought.. dont ask me where i got it from hehe..

A leaner mixture can produce more power under some situations. But it also makes the engine more prone to detonation, so often timing needs to be retarded to reduce detonation, which can cost power. It's a fine balancing act if one is looking for maximum power.

On supercharged engines, we often run engines pig-rich under boost to keep the detonation down. They'd make more power with a leaner mixture, but then they start destroying parts due to detonation.

Thanks for all the responses but what I want to know is this...
Does the engine light flashing on my 2006 indicate that it is starting to overheat? It was a steady flash when the bike was incredibly hot and it stopped flashing as soon as the traffic let up and I was able to start riding again.

I know this is a year later...does your bike have a Thundermax ECM on it by chance? That is the indication of hitting 350 deg head temp on a Thundermax. It will stop flashing when the temp drops below it (after you get moving and air cools it down a bit). I've had it happen a few times.

I was thinking the same thing. My Tmax equipped bike has done that, not sure if the factory ECM does.
