Front Axle "Button Head" Screws
So I'm planning on installing my fork boot covers and while looking at the front axle pinch bolts I noticed H/D once again went cheap on the bolts. Bolt seems to be soft and since mine have been loosened a few times I can tell they are starting to get worn.
Did some research and I found they are Harley-Davidson P/N 4042 (8M x 1.25 x 35) and I think I found the solution. On eBay I found some socket head bolts that I think will do the trick! Pricey, but will the last time you'll have to worry about it...

Or you can get here for little cheaper. I tried Lowes and couldn't find them, maybe yours will?

those bolts look way better. It was frustrating that these button head bolts were under facing the groun and happened to be metric. We have to find out **** like this when it's too late!

I replaced mine with stainless a couple years ago.
I was told by a mechanic that stainless and aluminum make the threads stick, so I use never-seeze on the threads, Very low torque on them.
I recheck the torque often and it never loosens.
Much better than the stock steel into aluminum setup.
Where they are , corrosion will happen.
