Default Shifter not returning

Good morning,

On my way to work this morning, i noticed whenever i try to change gears quick, whether be downshift or upshift..I cannot

If Im downshifting, the lever gets stuck until i actually put in in gear then it slowly comes back to the middle, only then I can downshift again...

Has anyone experienced this?

Possible binding linkage. What year and model is the bike?

I would suggest you take your link apart from the shift pedal assy. If you can activate the tranny properly using the linkage then the problem has to be the pedal assy. Take it apartfrom the hub that holds it all together, clean it out and lube it and slap it all back together. Could be just dirt and grime got in there.

I've had that happen on my 87 Softail. Turned out to be a spring steel spring in the transmission. Cheap part but quite a job taking the trans apart.

Disconnect linkage and verify which part is binding. I bet you anything it is the mid shaft.

I have forward control, same thing happened to me last year. Shifter doesn't return, had to lift and push manually. Found the shifter shaft binding, clean it up and lube no problem since then.

When you say shifter shaft, do you mean the part that actually use with you feet?
