well i am stoked i take pics to post on the forum... i snapped a pic of the new bearing after i installed the gear, and what do i see, but a crack in the inner race that supports the *****... all back apart she comes! new bearing will be in today
Now I need some enlightenment on those seals, how do you know they are backwards - does the lettering go to the outside like the cam inner bearings. Thanks again on all the pics and info.
There's a garter spring inside the seal on one side. It always faces the oil (ie inside the transmission for the main drive gear).

Ouch! That sorta things happened to me too. I take good pictures of everything I work on bike related for this reason.
im new to HD and just got a 01 FXDWG wit 57k miles, i love working on the bike and am in the process of cam chain tensioners as they were shot. i opted to pull rockers and keep stock pushrods and ill say so far these bikes are a joy to work on. im headed into the trans next and hope to get there with the same grace that you were afforded. had you run that bearing much longer it surley would have grenaded. thanks for the pic's!. i have got to learn how to upload pic's.
