Default Coming from a sportster. Upgrade to FXR or FXDX?

I am looking to upgrade my current '09 sporty. From what I have been reading the FXR has the better frame and the FXDX has better suspension. I am looking at a 92 FXRS 30k miles $5600.' 01 FXDX has 16k miles asking $6300. Which would you choose and why?

I'd go with the '01 just because it's much newer & less miles. you say FXDX has a better suspension too?

I'm on a 01 lowrider and my next bike is going to be an fxr. Evo's make plenty of power and don't have the cam chain tensioner problem.

Please don't use the word "upgrade". Sportsters are really nice bikes.
If you want to get into a Dyna, you can probably get a nice low-mileage 09 (same year as your Sportster) for around 11K, with some looking around.

Which Dyna has the better suspension?
I wouldn't worry about that too much. Most Harleys run out of cornering clearance way before they start pushing the suspension capabilities.

^^^^^^This. Sportiest are great. The XL is a great engine to build, best valve train geometry of all the HD pushrod engines, light, tight bike.

Second, I have a 94 FXR and a 2010 Dyna(street bob). They are 2 different creatures. Riding them back to back, the Dyna feels all if the 100lbs heavier it is, and then some.
The FXR is tighter, more nimble, and more fun. I wouldn't hesitate to ride mine cross country tomorrow with no notice.
The Dyna has much better brakes, bigger forks, 6th gear(giving the bike longer legs so to speak), and more comfortable 2 up(bigger).

What are you after? What are your intentions/goals with the bike. That should govern your choice.

Either of the bikes could be made to suit on purpose or another. It's only money....

I've always wanted a FXDXTSport.... So, that would sway my decision.

But, for my money, an Evo or an early TwinCam? Evo all day, every day.

The FXDX has better suspension and brakes and lots of ground clearance, not saying that you can't drag the pegs great bike good engine converts to gear drive cams without an issue because of the timkin bearings reducing axial crankshaft movement. $6300 seems a little high but unmolested low mileage ones are getting hard to find.

I have an '09 Dyna and a '92 FXR. The Dyna is a great riding bike from every angle, but the FXR is in a world of its own. For me it is mostly about the motor and frame. The Evo motor in the FXR frame is my favorite combination Harley has ever made. If its your cup of tea there is no substitute regardless of age and miles. If you are not so afflicted as I am, you will be happy with a newer Twin Cam.

I however would be getting the FXR.....

I have an 01 FXDX-T. Can't personally speak for the FXR but the FXDX of that year is a great bike. Dual front disks, kick-*** lean angle (34 degrees), timkin, fully adjustable shocks.
Not one of my friends that ride FXDX's would give them up for market value.

But again, FXR is considered the best ever.

For me it's not all about the handling. I just prefer the feel of the Evo over the Twin Cam, but there is nothing wrong with the Twin Cam and it is the current generation motor. If you aren't already stuck in the past like me you might as well save yourself some grief and just enjoy the newer models. As for me, I'm trapped with Evo (just feels right) and the FXR frame (more rigid, uglier by some people's standards, smaller, and more vibes...the good kind - due to different mount system than the Dyna) which are diminishing yearly and Evo parts which are abundant now, but not forever.
