I know this has been on here before but trying to piece together the info is challenging for me.
I do not like the 21 skinny tire.
What is the easiest way to get a wider tire, say off a Super Glide, on a wide glide? Does anyone sell a kit? Should I try to swap forks with someone?
I would like to try to avoid having to replace the fender because I think getting a match to the 08 anniversary paint set will be expensive.
If it's big enough for you, an Avon Roadrider 90/90/21 is supposed to actually be 98mm wide, should fit on the stock rim, and also with the stock fender. I'm just waiting to get a little more wear on my front tire before I make the switch myself.
I'm looking to get more even more than the 98mm. These skinny tire just burn up too quickly.
As for the fender, it looks to spread out pretty good just below the tire. If I had say a 19" rim and tire on there I think it would clear it.
Well, a tire pushing 100 mm width is a whole lot wider than what measures to be an 80/90 or 90/90, depending on what year you have.
The Avon 98mm (if that's the actual mounted measurement) is the widest that will fit with my fender without sticking out the side.
You could lace on a rim which will take a 130 (I think that's stock on the Breakout, if you want to go to your dealership and see what that looks like). Of course, your stock fender will look pretty ridiculous with that tire width. Not a lot goin' on between 98 and 130, on a 21 inch wheel. I've looked and looked.
You could lace a 19" front wheel off a Super Glide to your existing hub. I've got one laying in my garage, unused, with a tire mounted to it, as I did the opposite and went to a 90/90-21
I'm not opposed to dropping from a 21 to a 19 to get get more meat up there.
And ya know I never understood it. Why a skinny tire with wide forks???? Isn't that a conflict in interests???? LOL
Skinny tire has been s classic traditional look for years. It is the style of the bike period. Same with the sportster till the last few years with the exception of the 72. Where do you get that you burn through them too quick? Should get close to 10k out of front. You can get a DNA wheel in various combos from 21x3 or 3.5 but need klockwerks fender. Any good painter can match your color. Almost sounds like you need to look into getting a super glide and lose the wide. You can get a super glide wheel to work but still won't run wide enough for what you want @ 100/90/19. What tire have you been using that wears so fast?
I agree the fronts wear out too quick, it must be from pushing it hard in the corners. I only get about 8,000 miles out of a front so I run them until they're bald,
