It's designed to run dry. You can replace it w/ a lifetime K&N filter HD0800 - a good choice if you plan to keep the bike.

Are SE air filters no longer oiled? Everyone that I have bought in the past is an oiled filter like a K&N. I'm about certain K&N makes them. I service them just like the a K&N.

No. Oiling the SE filter element will ruin it. Oiled air filters are old technology. Filter media materials technology has come a long way since the days of "the dirt sticks to the oil" idea from the 1930's.

Sorry, but you are passing along info that is not 100% correct. HD may be making SE filters now that are not oiled. But they were oiled, at least up until a year or two ago. This is a Stage I kit for my bike....The pic speaks for itself....

That's because the filters in the SE kits USED to be K&N. Now they are not. Don't oil them. You are better offbuying the K&N equivalent because they are basically the same price (less actually, if you shop around) and those last virtually forever...

Harley had a falling out with K&Na fewyears back and no longer offer the K&N in the stage 1 kit. They have a paper filter in it now that doesn't get oiled but can be cleaned. I'd rather have the K&N with the oil myself. It's easier and cheaper to order the individual pieces for the stage 1 kit without the paper filter and add the K&N filter to complete it.

se air filter for the 02 fxd was a k&n style filter, the se air filter on my 05fxdli was the paper variety. ordered a K&N HD-0800 thru my local autozone, had it the next day. the paper filters are not to be oiled. just my 2 cents worth.

My '06 SE filter was some type of dry green paper-like media; tore after about 3000 miles... I run K&Ns in everything I own. Makes a big difference out here in the dusty sticks.

But the clog REALLY fast. Infact it is my experience and opinion that a really dusty environment is a place you should NOT use a oiled filter.

I have some experience in the dust to end all dust as well. You cannot name one place on earth that is dustier than the silt beds of Baja. I don't think I have ever seen a oiled filter there.

Just my opinion.

I run a KN on my bike, in my Duramax and in my Jetta. Love them.
