I picked up a set of these scissor type jacks. I use them to work on the bike as well as store it for the winter. Really stable, they lift over 1000 lbs, and raise to about 16" or so.
Use one or both.
Just ordered one of these. Looks like exactly what I need.
I guess my question would be how does the J&S pick the bike up level without an adaptor when mine and the others mentioned can not? Is it wider or narrower than mine which is 15" wide from outside of each pad to pad and each pad is 3" wide.
Yes, both the J&S and Pit-bull jack's lift arms are wider than most motorcycle jacks. That's why Schlonghair posted his Red Jack Mod cited above, to widen the arms.
When I saw how much my no-name lift with "Harley" lift adapters wobbled, and read stories about the lift adapters separating and bikes falling off, I ordered the J&S. Without a doubt, that thing is awesome! I had both wheels off for new tires recently and never needed a strap. It's rock solid, just make sure you drop the wheels to the floor before you try and tighten the axle to 100 ft lbs. The J&S will pay for itself with just a few services, or one major mod like cams, new tires, or primary work!
I can easily sit on my bike just like it is in the photo with no tie downs. It is rock solid. You can spin the jack 360 degrees. The jack also has locks that keep the jack from going down on its own over time. The pic is with it raised only about half height. I have no regrets for the spending the money on the quality jack.
I'm still new on forum. I bought a craftsman red jack and modified it as in the you tube video. I have not had any problems - bike, 2007 FXDB, is currently on it as I removed the front head to have a broken exhaust stud drilled out. Thanks for all of the info on the forum.
I have the J&S for my 14 WG and they work great without adaptors and provide a very stable and roll around work platform. You get what you pay for, sometimes you are willing to pay extra for piece of mind.
