I like the heavy breather myself. It's snorkel intake swings out of the way of my knee and it makes three more horsepower than the stock, at least that is what happened on my dyna.
$300-$400 for 3hp? I don't think so.

If thats the case I might as well save the money and stick with a k&n filter in the stock housing.
Try the Forcewinder XR Air Kit. Just as good as the DK & other snorkle type...almost half the price. Added benefit for this type of air cleaner setup is that on long rides, your knee doesnt have to be kicked out to the side...much more comfortable.
I added the Kury "over the top" style breather to finish it off.

While I realize you're being a sarcastic smart ***, the set up you describe is probably very close to be being as effective as most high flow air cleaners. The only change I would make to the oem housing is to drill out some of the plastic that is behind the cover so that the K&N filter element interfaces with the air stream better.
I just added a Vance & Hines Duke aircleaner as well as slipons and FP3 to my Street Bob and this combo seems to be working very well. Made a big difference in engine heat and some power and sound improvement.
