As for turning wrenches, yeah, I do realize that. I was trained in Crash/Fire vehicle repair and maintenance in the USAF during Vietnam. No stranger to wrenches. I should have looked the bike over and done more research prior to buying. And now I've pretty much fixed what was wrong. I'm happy with the bike, still,it would have been nice to not have had to spend the additional bucks! My loss for not being more skeptical about buying used.

Incidentally, just saw your post regarding the headlight on your Street Bob - damn nice find. Really changed the look of the front!
my bad then. seemed like you had done your research prior to the purchase. point is, not too many dealers of any kind, no matter what they are selling are not going to pay their service techs to give the vehicle a full once over before they sell it. too much time, too much expense, too much time not letting their techs work on service bikes to make money. every business is there to make money, and if they aren't they won't be around very long. i've been in various types of sales for a good majority of my life, and i have yet to see a company that sells all it's product for zero profit, and there is nothing wrong with that. a little bit of a side rant here, but it always kills me when i hear people bitch about a car or bike dealer making profit on a sale, yet they will brag about the $100 bottle of wine, the $8 shot, or the $25 case of beer they just bought. for what you are getting, there is a hell of a lot more markup in those items compared to something as complex as a car or bike. but whatever, i digress. end of the day, enjoy your bike and don't disregard the maintenance. i would also suggest checking the critical fasteners on a fairly regular basis, as the vibrations will rattle things loose. buy a service manual and use it to keep it running right!

btw, thanks for the thumbs up on my headlight....once i finally found that style i knew i had to have it on my bike....i love it.
