I dropped mine last month in a car wash on a trip to Colorado. I was pushing the it out of the bay to keep from getting mud on the clean floorboards (stupid) and lost it in the slippery wet bay.
It was in the swerving exercise and had to brake after. I hit the rear too hard and was skidding. Road it most of the way out and slowed to almost stop which through me off balance some. Got foot down and was trying to hold but figured it was go down hard or lay it down as easy as I could. I'm not too sure once the foot hit but know it sucked and now I have a bike that's going to get new parts. I guess it's time to name her since she gets cranky when it's been a while since she got new stuff.
i think i would rather drop it once, or twice in my lifetime and fix it, then run those ugly, imo, bars 24-7 yep pretty sure.
hmmmm...Oregon...would you ride without a helmet if big brother didn't make you wear one? Do you ride in jeans, T-shirt, and sneakers or do you go full out leather and armor?
I use a crash bar to give me a little more protection in the event that I do have to lay it down...and a few more seconds to get my leg out if I do.
And, it also gives me someplace to hang my highway pegs...
I've never owned a bike I haven't dropped once or twice (well, so far I haven't dropped my street glide, but I've only had it since April, so give it time).
Don't knock yourself too hard...should be pretty proud w/yourself to be in the ERC. That's a feat within itself and tomorrow's another day. Any tip you can walk away from...is a good one.

Maccid - 2 very cool things:
1. that you were taking the experienced riders course. Everyone should keep up on training. We can always learn something new.
2. That you had the stones to admit it here on this forum.
Hats off to you for both!
