Guys looking for some help, I'm 400 miles into my 07 Superglide, this is my firstHarley so dont know what to expect noise and quality wise. Ireally enjoy the whole Harley experiance apart from a knocking I feelto the pegs under certain conditions like poor roads and heavy breaking (including engine breaking). The knock which is like a metel on metal event, can be felt whenslowing down to a junction when the bike ismoving from 30 to stop, not every time, seems to be dependant onroads and breaking as stated.
The bike runs smoothly (gear box noise apart, as read in other threads) but as Ive never been on another bike it doesnt bugme too much as I have no comparison.
Couple of theories, could it be the side stand slapping? What are the engine mounts like, can these knock, or could it be the rear suspension...
Any guidance is much appreciated, bugging the hell out of me.....
What part of the bike does the sound seem to come from, front ,back, motor/tranny? Gotta friend with a lowrider said the washers on top of the handlebar bushings were hitting the upper tree.
just been out, it beats the hell out of me...worst in 2nd gear, when slowing down, can do it just by accelerating and backing off....there it is!! a knock on the pegs. Gonna get the shop to have a look..
This sounds familiar to what my 06 was doing. The dealer explained that sometime when put together the mounts aren't tightened properly. I assume he meant in sequence like a set of lugnuts or auto cylinder head bolts. I took mine in and he fixed it. He said he loosened all of the motor mounts and started the bike and let it idle for few seconds and shut it off. RE-tightened the bolts and he was done. He claimed that sometimes the motor isn't lined up when tightened from the factory. 3000 miles later and still no sign of that harsh knock.
May not be your problem but the symptoms sound the same. Atrocious vibration in the pegs/bars and a hard surging type knock under hard breaking.
sounds like a plan, I have thought that it could be engine mount related as sometimes when I break I will use engine breaking aswell, and its then that i can feel the knock...Chris my dealer is a good guy, i'll show him this thread and see what he can do for me..Thanks for your guidance guys...
See if it does the knocking when you use the front brake sharply. If it does it points to the need for a steering head adjustment, Quite a common thing but moreso in softails.
